Reading With Karly #6

Style
By: Lauren Conrad

Everyone knows Lauren Conrad as a Fashion Guru. They also know her from certain Television Shows such as The Hills and Laguna Beach. Besides Television she is an author. The book I have by her is called "Style." This book just basically talks about certain things a girl should have in her closet. Ways to achieve a certain look. Also, she talks about how to pack for a trip for a week, 2 weeks etc. Also there is a chapter just for Beauty. She has the book sectioned off by Fashion, Beauty and also Lifestyle. This book can be used from Middle School to College and so on. I think this book is amazing and I love it. My favorite part of the book is about Fashion. I would recommend this book as whole to anyone who has an interest in fashion. I thought that this book was just going to be a guide to fashion. But she gave her opinion as to what works best for everyone's size/shape, preference etc. I actually liked it very much and found it helpful. I think her intent was to help and give advice about how to make a style your very own with helpful tips on fashion. She wasn't telling you to wear this and that but how to make certain things your own. Classification Organization is a pattern of organization. In the book Lauren Conrad breaks everything down in three main parts Fashion, Beauty, Lifestyle Then, she talks about the different aspects of the three topics.

Teen Vogue Handbook
Chapter "Editors"
By: Teen Vogue

The Teen Vogue Handbook is mainly based around Fashion and Beauty. Mostly Fashion though with certain chapters labeled Designers, Editors, Stylists, Models, Photography and also Beauty. I love this book so much because of this is my favorite topic to talk about. FASHION. My favorite chapter in this book is the Editors chapter. It's my favorite because I want to be a part of that part of fashion. A fashion writer is my goal mainly. For one I love clothes and fashion. And secondly, it is a job that I can be myself and have fun. Who doesn't want that right? The Editor chapter goes over some of the main parts of being an editor. It talks about the main editors at Teen Vogue/Vogue. There is a part about the Editor-in-chief Amy Astley and also the Editor herself Anna Wintour. Also this chapter goes over tips for breaking into this part of the industry and things you would need if you were an editor. It also has interviews with some of the actual workers there and intern interviews. Which I thought was actually pretty cool. They answer a lot of questions about Fashion Editors/Writers. Finally they also give a schedule of what the Editors/Editors-in-chief do on a daily basis with the magazine. And it is actually very hectic but sounds fun. My reaction was "wow" after I started to read and read on. At first actually I thought it was going to be a horrible book that gave no advice what so ever but it gave great advice after all. I'm very glad I purchased this book. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves fashion. And I guess the author's intent in writing this was to help out anyone who wants a career in the fashion industry. Teen Vogue gets comments all day every day about all of these topics. I thought it was smart to take that one question asked for all of these categories and put it in one book. With the actual masterminds behind all of the topics. Marc Jacobs, Amy Astley, Chanel Iman, Pat McGrath, and also Patrick Demarchelier. It is just all around amazing!

Reading With Karly #4

I recently read a chapter of my book "Safe Haven" by Nicholas Sparks

In this chapter, Katie is telling Alex about her past. Katie only really moved away to Southport to get away from her abusive husband. Alex knew that she about her situation before she even told him. And that is because Alex has seen behavior like it before. Then, in the following chapter Kevin her abusive husband is searching for her. I liked how he went back in forth with what was happening with Katie and Alex. After that the next chapter it would talk about Kevin. At first I hated the book than I continued it and began to like it. The book is obviously about romance but it definitely has a lot of suspense in it. And when Kevin goes to look for her he has her social security, her fake name and also a gun. I personally thought that Kevin was really crazy. Like he was just CRAZY. Something was very off with him. I'm just very glad that I didn't stop reading it because it was just that good. The author's intent was to show if you love someone you have to love them for them and not for their past. Meaning Alex loved Katie even through her horrible past. And even though Alex lost his wife a while back from cancer, Katie still loved him and his kids. One part of the book that made me want to really cry way when Kevin set her house on fire. And the kids and Katie were still in the house. The pattern of organization in this book is definitely problem solution and also cause and effect. One example of the problem solution is problem-when Kevin finds Katie and goes to take her back and brings a gun! Solution is- Alex and Katie fight him together and at the end Kevin..Dies.

Reading With Karly #3

Angela's Ashes:

I am reading the book Angela's Ashes in my English class. And so far it is personally just okay. It isn't one of my favorites. I like books that I can actually pick for myself. This book just doesn’t catch my attention as much as I would like it to. The first chapter Frank the author (it is a memoir) talks about his life in Ireland and how he has had to move from the United States back to Ireland. He talks about how he also hates certain things about Ireland like for example, the poverty. Frank and his family struggle for money due to the fact that Malachy Sr. Frank's father uses all his money on alcohol. Angela keeps getting pregnant and having more kids. But sadly they keep dying due to poor living conditions and lack of food. Angela has already had five kids so far. And since birth control wasn’t relevant back then she will continue to get pregnant. Angela’s family tells her that she should leave Malachy, but she disagrees and stays with him.  Also, about the pompous priest and the bullying schoolmasters. The teachers there do not really like Frank as much. And throughout the rest of chapter one he just talks about how his mom Angela and his father Malachy met and had an abundant of kids. The style of notes you could use for this novel would be outlines and three column notes.

Kim Kardashian Talks Baby Names: North Is a No, But Find Out What She’s Considering!

  • I personally am not a big "Kim Kardashian" fan but I was very interesting in her baby name decisions. The first time I heard about "North" so the baby's name could be "NORTH WEST" I just thought it was stupid. Kim should definitely name the baby with a "K" like everyone else in her family. The exception being Kourtney for naming her children "Penelope" and "Mason." It turns out that Kim is thinking about Easton. Kanye and Kim are thinking about it because they believe guy names can eventually be nice for girls as well.

Reading With Karly #1

As stated in the lesson I was told to find out what kind of reader I am. I have done the quiz and my results were that I liked Comedy and Fiction. I personally believe that this is very accurate. I like books, magazines etc. that can actually keep my attention. I like fiction way better than Non-Fiction. Also, books that have more comedy are very entertaining.

  1. The last book I read and loved was a book called "The List." The book was very fictional but at the same time it was about high school so I related to it a little bit. It kept me entertained through out the book. Whenever I had to put it down I just didn't want to because it was that good. I liked how the list was for the "Ugly" and "Pretty" girls in each grade. I thought it was interesting since that NEVER happens in schools. It was just a really good book. I would read it again if I had too.
